How to Immigrate to Canada as a truck driver: LMIA & Work Permit Guide (2025)

Canada continues to recruit foreign truck drivers through the LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) work permit program, but the process has strict requirements. Here’s what you need to know:

 ✅ Who Qualifies?

1. Valid U.S. B1/B2 Visa (90% of Canadian trucking jobs involve crossborder freight)

2. IELTS English Test (Minimum 4.5 score required)

3. 2+ Years of Real Trucking Experience (Not Uber, delivery vans, or military vehicles—must be Class 1/AZ driving)

4. Proof of Experience (Videos of you driving a tractortrailer help)

 ❌ Who Gets Rejected?
  •  No B1/B2 visa
  •  Low IELTS score (<4.5)
  •  Fake experience (Canada verifies pay stubs & references)
  •  Previous Canadian visa denials (reapplying rarely works)

 ⚠️ Beware of Scams!

  •  Fake job offers (Some fraudsters impersonate real companies)
  •  Pay-for-LMIA schemes (Never pay for a job offer—it’s illegal)
  •  Dishonest consultants (Only use licensed RCICs or lawyers)
🚛 Companies Hiring Foreign Truck Drivers (2025)

Many large Canadian carriers recruit internationally, especially in New Brunswick & Nova Scotia (easier LMIA approvals). Some top options:

  •  ET Transport (Crossborder, Ontario/NBbased)
  •  Bison Transport
  •  TFI International
  •  Day & Ross
 ⏳ Process & Timeline

1. Find a Sponsor (Company with approved LMIA)

2. LMIA Approval (~4 weeks if preapproved)

3. Work Permit Application (~36 months processing)

4. Arrival in Canada (Must pass road test for license conversion)

 💡 Pro Tips
  •  Improve English (Higher IELTS = Better chances)
  •  Get Real Experience (Canada checks work history strictly)
  •  Avoid Fraud (Only deal directly with employers)
